Hickory Wood Sample - Sunset Finish

Hickory Wood Sample - Sunset Finish

Sunset Hickory

Hickory is finished with a darkening stain which reduces some of the variation in the wood, but retaining the hardness of the wood.

The natural variation in the wood is allowed to come through in stunning contrast. A wood sample of hickory will really not do it justice -- the variation in wood patterns often run over several feet.

Hickory Hardwood

Hickory is a very hard, dense wood with dark and light patches intermixed. Its fine grain and unique, varigated coloration ranges from medium blonde to brown. The color variation in hickory is substantial. Hickory will take on amber tones over time. This color change is moderate. Its species name is Carya Ovata. Its Janka rating (hardness and resistance to scrapes, gouges and cuts) is 1820, making it the strongest commonly available hardwood.
