Round Dining Room Table Details

round dining room table

Genuine Solid Hardwood: Our round dining room tables are created from solid hardwood. We use only genuine hardwoods -- there is no pine, plywood filler, pressed wood, "select hardwoods" or veneers used in our round tables.

Tabletops: Our round dining room tables are created standard from 1.5" thick hardwood, but we can also increase the thickness of this tabletop. See below under 'Other Table Options' for more details.

Table Undercarriage: Our round tables are created to be very strong and solid, and are designed to support a heavy tabletop. The legs and supports are created entirely from solid oak.

Hardware: We use high quality hardware in our round dining room tables. The interior leaf mechanism is created from solid hard maple, and the metal gears are mechanized to ensure stability. None of our customers has ever reported a broken or damaged gear.

Traditional Craftsmanship: Harmony Cedar round tables are individually handcrafted by Amish craftsmen with decades of experience. Creating a beautiful, durable tabletop requires this level of expertise.

Maple Characteristics

Maple is generally straight, but sometimes curly grained hardwood with a relatively coarse texture. It is usually very white with almost no grain at all, and it is a very durable, very dense hardwood. It does not take on stain or coloration well. With age, it will take on slight amber and cream tones. This change is minor. Its species name is Acer Saccharum. Its Janka rating (hardness and resistance to scrapes, gouges and cuts) is 1450.

Choosing an Maple Finish

We offer a variety of stains and finishes for our maple tables. Please click here for details on the available maple finish options.

If you're unsure about the finish for your table, we encourage you to order wood samples. Color accuracy on our website cannot be assured due to a number of variables including lighting, the camera used, and the settings on your computer monitor.

Shipping and Packaging

Our round dining room tables take 6-8 weeks to create, and 1-3 weeks for delivery. It takes a bit longer to create a table with a rounded skirt edge.

9 times out of 10, our dining tables are completed and delivered within this timeframe. However, true craftsmanship cannot be rushed -- sometimes a piece just takes a bit longer. Please let us know if there is an important holiday or event we should be aware of when you place your order, and we will do our best to get it there on time.

We ship all of our dining tables via 'inside the home delivery and setup'. Your new table will be created to your specifications by a master craftsman, then delivered and set-up inside your dining room by professional furniture movers.

We also offer Curbside Delivery (you take the packaged table off of the back of the truck and unload it yourself), and Curbside Delivery with liftgate (same as the previous, except that the table is lowered to the ground for you). These are more affordable options, but they are also more complicated and difficult. We recommend this as an option for some of our smaller tables, but do not recommend this option for any table larger than around 60" in length. Our tables are very large and very heavy.

Ordering Information

Ordering: You may order directly online through our secure server, or call us at 1-888-959-8899 and order with a 50% deposit. The remainder will be billed prior to delivery.

We recommend that you contact us to discuss your table before placing an order.

Tabletop Thickness

Our tabletops are created from 1.5" thick solid hardwood as our standard, but we can also create thicker tabletops. Changing the tabletop thickness affects the price of the table, table leaves and shipping costs.

1.25" thick tabletop: 0.75" or 1" wood is commonly used on tabletops. A tabletop created from 1.25" hardwood is quite a solid piece of furniture.

1.5" thick tabletop: 1.5" hardwood is thicker than the wood used for most tabletops, and it is quite solid. This is the standard for our round dining room tables.

1.75" thick and 2" thick tabletop: A round dining room table created from 1.75" or 2" thick hardwood is very solid, very substantial and very heavy.

Measured Thickness of a Completed Tabletop: Please note that in the woodworking process, some of this thickness is sanded and planed away in order to create a flat tabletop surface. This varies depending on the individual piece of wood, but is generally around .125" to .25". This difference between the starting material and the finished product is a consequence of working with natural products, as each piece of wood is unique. This variation in planing and sanding depth will be present on any handmade table.

Table Sizes and Leaves

We offer several standard round table sizes, but we can create a table to nearly any size or dimension. The table sizes listed here are not exhaustive.

Our round dining room tables can all house a number of leaves, expanding the size of the tabletop when friends or family arrive.

Each family is unique, and table leaves reflect that difference. 12" leaves are the most common size, and have the advantage of being easier to store and carry around. But 18" leaves make seating your extended friends and family a bit easier, as most chairs are also 18" wide. Each 18" leaf allows two more people to sit at the dining table.

We strongly recommend ordering any necessary leaves along with your table -- leaves ordered at a later date may not match the wood grain, or fit inside the table properly.

Please see our Guide to Dining Room Tables for more details on table leaves and leaf storage.

Other Table Options

Drop Legs: Drop Legs allow you to extend your table beyond 3 leaves, adding a bit of support to the ends of the table. We recommend drop legs on all round tables with 4 or more leaves. Drop legs fold up inside the table when not in use, and are hidden from view. Please click here for a photo.

Table Edge: Our table edges have three different edges. Click here for photos of these three options: Standard, Half Bevel and Full Bevel.

Table Skirt: We have two choices for our table skirt. The standard skirt has small brackets to join together the horizontal sections of the skirt. A round or oval table with the standard skirt takes 4-6 weeks to create. The round skirt is steam-bent, has a curvature to match the table. A table with a round skirt takes 6-8 weeks to create. You can see photos of both here.

Round Table Base: Please click here for photos of the round table base choices. The table base is also referred to as the undercarriage.

On pedestal bases: one further variable is whether the table will have a single pedestal or a double pedestal. Smaller tables under 50" long generally have only a single pedestal, as a double pedestal on a small table would be quite cramped underneath the tabletop. Larger tables over 60" generally require a double pedestal base. This varies, however, depending on the number of leaves you plan to add to the table. The base must be sturdy enough to support the tabletop when all of the leaves are added. We are happy to discuss this option with you in more detail.

Table fluting and mixed wood designs are also available on round tables, but we do not offer them as a standard option due to all the variables involved with the choice of table bases. Please call us at 1-888-959-8899 to discuss this in more detail.
