Maple Wood Sample - Birds Eye - Natural Finish

Maple Wood Sample - Birds Eye - Natural Finish

Natural Birds Eye Maple

This wood is difficult to find in large quantities, it is generally used as a contrast wood. It is varnished without stain. It is quite a bit more expensive than regular maple.

Due to the rarity of this wood, we do not prepare samples in advance. The samples take a few weeks to prepare (based on local availability).

Birds Eye Maple Hardwood

Coarse grained and lightly colored, the delicate round "bird’s eyes" are the distinguishing characteristic from standard maple. These former shoots at the top of the tree have to be identified and then cut against the grain, making this wood especially rare.

Maple is generally straight, but sometimes curly grained hardwood with a relatively coarse texture. It is usually very white with almost no grain at all, and it is a very durable, very dense hardwood. It does not take on stain or coloration well. With age, it will take on slight amber and cream tones. This change is minor. Its species name is Acer Saccharum. Its Janka rating (hardness and resistance to scrapes, gouges and cuts) is 1450.
