Mission Dining Room Table Details

mission dining room table

Genuine Solid Hardwood: Our mission dining room tables are created from solid hardwood. We use only genuine hardwoods -- there is no pine, plywood filler, pressed wood, "select hardwoods" or veneers used in our mission tables.

Tabletops: Our mission dining room tables are created standard from 1.5" thick hardwood, but we can also increase the thickness of this tabletop. See below under 'Other Table Options' for more details.

Table Undercarriage: Our mission tables are created to be very strong and solid, and are designed to support a heavy tabletop. The legs and supports are created entirely from solid oak.

Hardware: We use high quality hardware in our mission dining room tables. The interior leaf mechanism is created from solid hard maple, and the metal gears are mechanized to ensure stability. None of our customers has ever reported a broken or damaged gear.

Traditional Craftsmanship: Harmony Cedar mission tables are individually handcrafted by Amish craftsmen with decades of experience. Creating a beautiful, durable tabletop requires this level of expertise.

Mixed Hardwood Characteristics

Mixed Hardwood tables are created from Cherry and Walnut, or Maple and Walnut. These two combinations create the best contrast from the natural colors of the hardwoods.

Choosing an Mixed Hardwood Finish

We can finish our mixed wood tables in one of three ways: Unfinished, Natural (clear varnish) and Traditional Oil and Wax. Please click here for details on these finish options.

If you're unsure about the finish for your table, we encourage you to order wood samples. Color accuracy on our website cannot be assured due to a number of variables including lighting, the camera used, and the settings on your computer monitor.

Our 100% Quality Guarantee

Each dining room table is created by hand by Amish master craftsmen and is carefully inspected individually prior to shipping to assure its quality.

To assure this quality, we offer a full money back guarantee and a full one year warranty against defects on our dining room tables.

Please click here for more details on our 100% quality guarantee.

Comments From Our Customers

We encourage you to view the comment cards and emails sent in by our customers. There are well over one hundred posted on our website.

Shipping and Packaging

Our mission dining room tables take 4-6 weeks to create, and 1-3 weeks for delivery.

9 times out of 10, our dining tables are completed and delivered within this timeframe. However, true craftsmanship cannot be rushed -- sometimes a piece just takes a bit longer. Please let us know if there is an important holiday or event we should be aware of when you place your order, and we will do our best to get it there on time.

We ship all of our dining tables via 'inside the home delivery and setup'. Your new table will be created to your specifications by a master craftsman, then delivered and set-up inside your dining room by professional furniture movers.

We also offer Curbside Delivery (you take the packaged table off of the back of the truck and unload it yourself), and Curbside Delivery with liftgate (same as the previous, except that the table is lowered to the ground for you). These are more affordable options, but they are also more complicated and difficult. We recommend this as an option for some of our smaller tables, but do not recommend this option for any table larger than around 60" in length. Our tables are very large and very heavy.

Please click here for more details on our shipping procedures.

Ordering Information

Ordering: You may order directly online through our secure server, or call us at 1-888-959-8899 and order with a 50% deposit. The remainder will be billed prior to delivery.

We recommend that you contact us to discuss your table before placing an order.

Tabletop Thickness

Our tabletops are created from 1.5" thick solid hardwood as our standard, but we can also create thicker tabletops. Changing the tabletop thickness affects the price of the table, table leaves and shipping costs.

1.25" thick tabletop: 0.75" or 1" wood is commonly used on tabletops. A tabletop created from 1.25" hardwood is quite a solid piece of furniture.

1.5" thick tabletop: 1.5" hardwood is thicker than the wood used for most tabletops, and it is quite solid. This is the standard for our mission dining room tables.

1.75" thick and 2" thick tabletop: A mission dining room table created from 1.75" or 2" thick hardwood is very solid, very substantial and very heavy.

Measured Thickness of a Completed Tabletop: Please note that in the woodworking process, some of this thickness is sanded and planed away in order to create a flat tabletop surface. This varies depending on the individual piece of wood, but is generally around .125" to .25". This difference between the starting material and the finished product is a consequence of working with natural products, as each piece of wood is unique. This variation in planing and sanding depth will be present on any handmade table.

Table Sizes and Leaves

We offer several standard mission table sizes, but we can create a table to nearly any size or dimension. The table sizes listed here are not exhaustive.

Our mission dining room tables can all house a number of leaves, expanding the size of the tabletop when friends or family arrive.

Each family is unique, and table leaves reflect that difference. 12" leaves are the most common size, and have the advantage of being easier to store and carry around. But 18" leaves make seating your extended friends and family a bit easier, as most chairs are also 18" wide. Each 18" leaf allows two more people to sit at the dining table.

We strongly recommend ordering any necessary leaves along with your table -- leaves ordered at a later date may not match the wood grain, or fit inside the table properly.

Please see our Guide to Dining Room Tables for more details on table leaves and leaf storage.

Other Table Options

Drop Legs: Drop Legs allow you to extend your table beyond 3 leaves, adding a bit of support to the ends of the table. We recommend drop legs on all mission tables with 4 or more leaves. Drop legs fold up inside the table when not in use, and are hidden from view. Please click here for a photo.

Table Edge: Our table edges have three different edges. Click here for photos of these three options: Standard, Half Bevel and Full Bevel.

Tabletop: Our mission dining table can be created with one of several tabletop styles. There are two visual guides you can use to assist your selection. The first is the Tabletop Options Chart. The second is photos of the actual tables themselves, please click on the name below for a photo of the tabletop. Your choices for a mission style table: standard rectangular, curved tabletop, 90 degree corner 1" cut (no photo available), 90 degree corner 6" cut, rounded corner 1" radius and rounded corner 12" radius.

Mixed Wood Options

Mixed wood tables can be created in very complicated patterns. We offer a number of options for your mixed wood table. Please contact us at 1-888-959-8899 if you have any questions.

For all the options listed below, the light wood is either cherry or maple (depending on your choice under 'Mixed hardwood Finish'), and the darker wood is Walnut. In our expeirence, these two combinations produce the greatest contrast and the most beautiful table.

Custom mixed wood designs are available for stained woods (like antique cherry and red cherry), but the options are very limited. Please see our section on mixed wood tables in the Guide to Dining Room Tables for more details.

Tabletop Color: The color of the tabletop may be light (maple or cherry) or dark (walnut).

Tabletop Diamond Inlays: The tabletop may have diamond inlays of the opposite color (light or dark). Three diamond inlays are added to both ends of the table.

Tabletop Border: Border tables have a different wood lining the edge of the tabletop, which creates a simple and beautiful contrast. The border will be the opposite color of the tabletop, and any inlays added will be the same color as the center of the tabletop. Please see this photo for clarification. (Note: The choice of a double border table design also affects any table leaves added to the table).

Skirt Color: The table skirt is the border set back a bit from the tabletop, which runs the full diameter underneath the tabletop. The skirt may be light (maple or cherry) or dark (walnut).

Skirt Diamond Inlays: The skirt corners may have diamond inlays added in one of three ways. Standard Skirt, No Diamond Fluting. Mixed Wood Skirt Corner, No Diamond Fluting (no diamonds, but a mixed wood contrast piece on each corner). Edge Diamond Fluting on Skirt (two diamonds on each corner, eight total on the entire skirt). Corner Diamond Fluting on Skirt (three diamonds on each corner, twelve total on the entire skirt, this is only available in combination with the 6" cut corner option. Please click here for photos.

Skirt Fluting: Fluting is a more complicated wood design that adds detail to the table, the fluting is added to the skirt. Please click here for a photo of single wood fluting. Please click here for a photo of mixed wood fluting.

Undercarriage Color: The color of the undercarriage (the legs and bracers that support the tabletop and skirt) may be light (maple or cherry) or dark (walnut).

Undercarriage Bolt Cover: The color of the bolt covers may be created in a contrast wood (light or dark). Please click here for a photo.

Undercarriage Mission Slats: The color of the slats on the ends of the table, and in the center of the table, may be created in a mixed wood contrast. There are five slats on each end, and the number in the center varies depending on the length of the table. Please click here for a photo of mixed wood slats on the end of a mission table. The slats may be added with the dominant color being light, or dark (in other words -- if there are five slats with three light and two dark, the light color would be dominant).
