Walnut Mission Hutch Details
Our hutches stand 84" tall, with the base at 30" to match the standard dining table height. A matching server base is 36" tall.
Our mission dining room hutches are individually handcrafted by Amish craftsman. Each hutch is created from 100% solid hardwood. We use only genuine hardwoods -- there is no pine, plywood filler, pressed wood, "select hardwoods" or veneers used in our mission hutches.
Walnut Characteristics
Black Walnut is usually straight grained with a moderately coarse, uniform texture. It has rich dark brown heartwood, and nearly white sapwood. The overall color is a dark brown color with hints of grey, black, and even blue swirled out of the luxurious grain. Genuine black walnut is very rare these days -- what you think of as walnut is likely a stained variety of oak. True black walnut is a very complicated, very beautiful hardwood. With age, walnut will take on a bit of golden brown color. This change is minor. Its species name is Juglans Nigra. Its Janka rating (hardness and resistance to scrapes, gouges and cuts) is 1010.

We offer a variety of stains and finishes for our walnut mission hutches. Please click here for details on the available walnut finish options.
If you're unsure about the finish for your hutch, we encourage you to order wood samples. Color accuracy on our website cannot be assured due to a number of variables including lighting, the camera used, and the settings on your computer monitor.

Mission Hutch Customization
We offer several options to customize your dining room hutch.
Hardware Choice: We offer several standard hardware choices: Standard Mission CMV 433, Rustic Mission CMV 407, Antique Rust A27005 ART and Oil Rubbed Bronze A04235 ORB. We can also install custom hardware if you send it to us.
Component Height: The upper part of the hutch is available in several different heights. Click here for a comparison photo. Full Height has glass doors running from top to bottom for maxiumum shelf area (with no open space at table height). Three Quarter Height provides a 12" tall opening at the bottom for use as a serving or display area.
Beveled Glass: Beveled Glass is tapered in near the edges, creating a classic and distinctive look.
Wine Rack: A two-door server can hold up to two wine racks, a four-door server can hold up to four. This option looks best when one rack is added to the center of a three-door server, or two wine racks are added to the center of a four-door server. In order to house the 45 degree angle wine racks properly, some modifications to the proportionality of the piece may be needed (depending on the size of your piece). We will discuss this with you prior to making any changes, if they are needed. Here is a photo of a wine rack added to a mission hutch. Hutch wine rack.
Interior Lighting: We can also add lights to the interior of your hutch cabinets, to help show off your pieces inside. Hutch lighting and glass shelves.
Interior Glass Shelves: Glass shelves are commonly added to the top of the hutch when lighting is added, to help show off the interor. We do not recommend adding glass shelves to the bottom of the hutch, as its appearance is masked by the exterior doors. Prices listed above are for glass shelves in the top cabinets of the hutch.
Triptych Glass Pane: We can change the glass panels in your hutch to decorative triptych panels. This is generally done just to the top panel, not to the entire door. Prices listed above are for triptych panels in the top section of the hutch. Hutch triptych photo.
Custom Sized Hutches
We can also create custom sized hutches, the sizes listed here are simply the most common sizes.
