Quarter sawn oak is cut against the grain to create a more varied appearance and texture. We use white oak for our quarter-sawn cuts, as it has additional contrast and 'ray flake' in the wood which comes out beautifully when cut at an angle. Quarter sawn white oak is generally 30-40% more expensive than standard cut red oak.
